Tough Loss in the First Round
3/4/2010
Facing a foe that outscored them by 50 points early in the first semester of this year, the Lady Saints knew it wasn't going to be easy. But they went into the game with unbridled optimism nonetheless, hitting the court for the third time this year with the Barclay Bears of Haviland, Kansas - and again coming up short.
Despite an impressive display of last minute effort, Central lost in the first round of play in the Women's bracket, by a score of 46-53, on the campus of Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College in Moore, Oklahoma.
The game tipped off a little after 9:00 Wednesday evening. The Saints were slow to start - the score in the opening minutes was 0-7 with the Bears on a run - a scoring differential that proved ironic - as it was only 7 points that separated the two teams in the end as well.
Even with Mazie Dowdy's 25 points, and some helpful 3-pointers from Erica Norris, Marissa Hunter and Melanie Eidson, Central was unable to overcome the Barclay Lady Bears. It was a well fought game, and the Central fans would have been proud of their Lady Saints!
The CCCB women will go on to the 9th place game on Saturday, March 6th at 8:00 am. The games of the ACCA tournament can be followed on Twitter (twitter.com/acca2010) and on Cybersports online. Play-by-play action is given on the Cybersports sight for all the games of the tournament.
