Saints Hold Their Own

1/14/2010

A 65-104 loss seems like a real downer.  But considering that the Saints were playing a NCAA Division II team like Oakland City University (IN), the outcome really wasn't so bad.  The Saints went to the locker room at halftime with only a 13 point deficit.  With only eight players, three of which are brand new to the team, Central put up a great fight.  Team captain, Reggie Evans contributed 26 points to the score, while newcomers, Nick Ehlts and Micah Worstell added 10 and 9 points respectively.

The height disadvantage was apparent.  OCU a.k.a "The Mighty Oaks" earned their nickname. While the Saints pulled in 31 boards, OCU's Mighty Oaks pulled in 50.  The big guys were a huge factor in the Oakland City offense with 6'7" center,  Brandon Hopf,  contributing 26 points and 6'6" forward, Nathan Schumacher, adding 17 points to the scoreboard.

The Saints returned for practice on January 5th to prepare for their game with Lincoln Christian University, which was canceled due to bad weather.  Then they faced Concordia Seminary on Saturday, Jan. 9th, losing 69-93 to the Preachers in St. Louis.

They will be facing Grace University on the home court here in Moberly on Friday at 7:30, then Nebraska Christian on Saturday at 4:00.
