Lady Saints Finish Season with a Win

3/9/2010

The Lady Saints were up early on their last day at the ACCA tournament in Oklahoma, as they were scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. game that Saturday morning with the Association Free Lutheran Bible School of Minnesota.  So began the fight for 9th place, on the court at Hillsdale Bible College in Moore, OK.

Central seemed to finally find the rhythm of their game, heading into the locker room with a 10 point lead over the Conquerors (halftime score 40-30).   Everyone on the team (with the exception of Loree Vickio, who sat the bench with the flu) had their hands on the ball.  Team captain, Mazie Dowdy, scored 22 in the first half and added another 13 in the second half.  She finished the game with 35 - including 5 (of 6) from behind the arc.  Erica Norris added 10 to the score (which included 2 from 3-point land) and Marissa Hunter contributed 9.  Sophomore, Leez Howard, picked up a rebound and her first basket in her college basketball career.

The Lady Saints played a fast-paced game, keeping the Conquerors on their toes throughout the game.  In the end, CCCB went home with the win (74-53), finishing the ACCA National Tournament in 9th place.  Not bad, for their first trip to a national tournament.

Next year the ACCA tournament will be held in Joplin, MO.
