Lady Saints Defeat Red Lions
2/16/2010
The Lady Saints defeated Lincoln Christian University on a cold and wintry Monday night in Lincoln, Illinois - taking their team and coach to a place they have never seen before - 7 regular season wins. With a 15 point lead at the half, the Saints came out of the locker room excited, but had trouble re-igniting their offense. The Red Lions nearly rallied, holding Central to 19 and scoring 23. In the end, the Lady Saints prevailed, grasping their 7th win, beating LCU 44-33.
Sophomore, Mazie Dowdy of Eldon, MO contributed 20 points, while Caley Palmer of Novelty, MO added 13 points.
This win came us a much needed pick-me-up as the Lady Saints fell hard in two games in Iowa over the weekend. On Friday, Feb. 12, Central came close with Emmaus Bible College, losing 52-61 in Dubuque, Iowa. Despite a valiant effort from the Lady Saints, led by freshman, Marissa Hunter, who scored 20, the Lady's couldn't overcome the all out shooting spree presented by the Lady Eagles. Mazie Dowdy saw little playing time, benched in the first half with 3 fouls, then fouling out in the second half. Dowdy, who has been averaging over 20 points a game, was held to 8 points. Sophomore, Caley Palmer added 12 to the score, and nearly all of the Lady Saints stepped up to score. But in the end, it just wasn't enough.
Saturday's game pitted the Lady Saints against the Eagles of Faith Baptist in Ankeny, Iowa. It was a close game; Central left the court at half-time with only a 5 point deficit. Leading scorer, Mazie Dowdy went 3 for 3 from behind the 3 point line, adding total 28 points, 7 boards and 3 assists, despite fouling out late in the second half. The defense, again plagued with more than their share of fouls, couldn't hold the Eagles and lost 53-73 in the end.
